California White Sage
Salvia apiana), also known as sacred sage, is an evergreen perennial native to the Southwestern United States. This potent herb has been used for centuries by Native Americans in rituals of cleansing and healing. Many people continue this tradition today by holding their own sage smudging ceremonies.
Burn white sage to clear energy and restore balance, for protection and spiritual purification.
Alternative Imagination California White Sage smudge sticks are grown and packaged in the United States.
Palo Santo
Bursera graveolens) is an intensely aromatic tree native to South America. A relative of frankincense and myrrh, Palo Santo has a sweet scent with hints of vanilla, mint, and citrus. Its name translates to "Holy Wood" in Spanish, and has been used by saints and shamans alike for centuries. When burned, Palo Santo releases a fragrant smoke which many believe to uplift energy and aid in spiritual purification. Use it to promote calm, relieve stress, and dispel misfortune. Burn it before meditation, to clear thoughts or focus concentration.
Alternative Imagination Palo Santo is sustainably sourced from the dry tropical forests of South America, where it is gathered from fallen limbs- never live trees. Due to the natural variation in the wood, please expect some differences in size and density in your incense bundle.
White Incense Sand
Sand is a great medium that absorbs heat and protects your incense bowl. Plus it looks great! You can allow the sand and ashes mix, or scoop out the ashes to keep the sand clean.
To use: Pour the sand into the bowl. While cleansing, hold the incense over the sand to catch any fallen embers. To snuff the embers of your incense, push them into the sand until it stops smoking.
How to Burn Your Incense
- To light your Sage or Palo Santo, hold the stick over a flame at a 45 degree angle. We suggest a candle.
- Slowly rotate your incense over the flame until a good flame catches on your incense stick.
- Once it is lit you can continue to hold the stick at an angle and let the flame build.
- Gently blow the flame out. Glowing embers will remain and your incense will smoke.
- To encourage a longer burn you can gently blow on the embers
- To extinguish your incense, snub the stick in the sand.
